I set up a few RSS feeds on this blog. I personally don't have time to read RSS feeds. If I need topical information, I'll go search for it when I need it. I'm sure that RSS feeds are valuable for some people but they surely don't meet my information needs.
While I agree that we, as librarians, have to respond to the changing information landscape, I hope we will take a deep breath, consider our mission, review the range of patrons we assist, and realize that there are information needs that can best be met by private enterprise and not try to respond to every electronic information doodad or innovation. Let's choose what we do best and acknowledge that libraries cannot respond to every information need.
